THE END is a poignant and funny account of the ongoing climate catastrophe. In this new show, Bert and Nasi dance the end of their relationship, imagining what a future without each other might look like. Above the stage and projected onto a screen, two parallel narratives run alongside each other: the end of the Earth and the end of their partnership. Their dance is a reminder and a celebration of our own mortality, and that of everything around us. "Both insistently silly and unreservedly heart-rending" Guardian **** Bert & Nasi's stripped back, award-winning style of theatre is both hilariously funny and unrelentingly brutal. They play out big ideas on a personal level to expose the ridiculous, poignant and contradictory nature of the world we live in. They question - and want you to question - the part we play in today's crazy, mixed-up world. Commissioned by The Place and Warwick Arts Centre. Developed with support from the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. Supported by Arts Council England. Bert & Nasi are produced by Farnham Maltings.
Bertrand and Nasi are two European theatre makers based in the UK who have developed a strong reputation worldwide for making original, political theatre. Creating work in an age of austerity, and about austerity, their work is stripped right back and sits somewhere between live art, dance and theatre. They have made five shows together that toured the world in prestigious venues and festivals such as the Adelaide International Festival, Mostra Internacional de Teatro (Brazil), Festival de Otono (Spain), PuSh Festival (Canada), Fast Forward (Germany) and Mess Festival in Sarajevo. The theatre they make is aggressively simple with a strong sense of humour and play. Their shows are direct and emotional responses to the here and now of the world we're living in. Together they first created the trilogy EUROHOUSE, PALMYRA and ONE which explored power dynamics and political themes on a micro, human level, and complex political and social questions - Greece's relationship with the EU; the Syrian crisis; the rise of the ultra right - in an accessible, immediate form.
